The Pacific Northwest Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry was established in 1989 and was officially incorporated as a Washington state nonprofit organization in April 1990. It held a joint meeting with the Pacific Northwest Association of Toxicologists (PANWAT) in September 1990 at the LaSells Stewart Center at Oregon State University. The First Annual PNW-SETAC Meeting was held 26–27 June 1992 at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, and was titled: “Environmental Priorities of the 90s.” In 2003, it applied for and was granted 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service.
Our Mission:
To serve as the focal point for environmental toxicology and chemistry research in the Pacific Northwest by encouraging interaction among toxicologists in government, industry, academia and independent research organizations; sponsoring scientific and educational programs in regionally relevant toxicological issues; and fostering a broader understanding of environmental science among the public and private sectors.
