Changes Afoot in SETAC Europe Governance
We are sad to say that the long-time SETAC Europe Executive Director (SEED), Bart Bosveld, has announced that he plans to step down from this role in the new year, to focus on his role as SETAC Global Executive Director. He will be hugely missed, but we do still expect to see him at our SETAC Europe meetings in 2025 (Vienna) and 2026 (Maastricht) in his Global Executive Director capacity.
SETAC Europe Council (SEC) has decided on a two-pronged approach to balance the pressing need for continuity of leadership and openness in their search for the next SEED. To achieve this, SEC is working on putting an interim SEED in place to ensure that SETAC Europe can continue to serve its membership while we launch an open search for a permanent SEED. Progress on these efforts will be announced soon.
In the meantime, SEC is also forming a search committee for the long-term SEED (for a term of 5 years initially, renewable once). This committee will comprise members from the SEC, wider SETAC governance, the SETAC Europe staff, and the SETAC Europe membership. SEC is currently seeking an individual from this latter group to serve on the search committee, in particular any SETAC Europe members who have experience in non-for-profit executive searches or hiring. The role will involve shortlisting potential candidates and being part of the interview panel later in 2025 – should you require more information, please contact [email protected].
Nominations (self-nominations welcome) can be sent to [email protected] with a brief cover note explaining your experience and relevance to the search committee role and a CV by 15 December. We aim to establish the search committee by early 2025 to formally initiate the search process.
