SETAC members are invited to join the SETAC Latin America 16th Biennial Meeting, which will be held from 26–29 August at the National Agrarian University. The meeting will focus on the theme “Embracing holistic, dynamic and science-driven environmental regulations,” fostering discussions on sustainable solutions to pressing environmental challenges. With participants from academia, government, business and non-governmental organizations, the conference aims to bridge regulatory gaps and advance scientific research across Latin America.

Abstract submission for the meeting is open until 5 p.m. PET on 28 March.

Among a large number of areas and topics to be discuss, the program committee is planning to highlight the important advances in New Approach Methodologies (NAM) development, specifically related to challenges, opportunities and future directions in Latin America via platform and poster sessions at the meeting.

NAMs are gaining global momentum, particularly in North America and the European Union, where many countries and regions have already established roadmaps for replacing animal testing requirements with NAMs in regulatory processes. While similar roadmaps are under development in Latin America, progress in the implementation and acceptance of NAMs remains limited, with fewer examples of regulatory advancements in this field.

At the SETAC Latin America meeting, the organizers will provide a platform for sharing updates and disseminating progress in the development of NAMs, while fostering discussions on strategies to enhance their acceptance. We hope to use these platform and poster presentations, in conjunction with conversations in the SETAC Latin America NAM Work Group, to create an environment for collaboration, capacity building and knowledge exchange among industry, academia and regulatory bodies.

Key topics of discussion will include the challenges faced in developing and implementing NAMs in Latin America, the opportunities available to advance their adoption, and the future directions for research and regulatory integration. Presentations highlighting factors hindering progress in the advancement of NAMs in Latin America are also encouraged. We hope to explore strategies to promote the adoption of NAMs in the region and highlight potential collaborative efforts among sectors to drive progress in this field.
